EA888 engine is a series of newly designed engines by Volkswagen. It integrates a series of advanced technologies such as in-cylinder direct injection, turbocharging , variable valve timing , etc., realizing the perfect combination of power and economy and environmental protection. The EA888 engine consists of two main displacement types: 1.8L and 2.0L. Among them, the 1.8TSI has a maximum power of 118 kW (160 HP) / 5,000 to 6,200 RPM and a maximum torque of 250 nm / 1,500 to 4,500 RPM; The 2.0TSI has a maximum power of 147 kW (200 HP) / 5,100 to 6,000 RPM and a maximum torque of 280 nm / 1,700 to 5,000 RPM. The structure of the two engines is basically the same, but due to the difference in crankshaft and piston connecting rod length and crankshaft radius, the 2.0TSI connecting rod is shorter and the crankshaft radius is larger, which is designed to increase the exhaust volume and optimize the working volume of the combustion chamber to ensure a consistent compression ratio and the same combustion effect. In addition, the EA888 engine design also includes dual balance shaft , variable intake valve technology and variable valve timing technology, which help improve engine power and fuel economy. Because of its compact design and high integration, EA888 engine is widely used in many brands and models of Volkswagen Group, such as FAW-Volkswagen Magotan, Shanghai Volkswagen Tiguan , Passat  and so on. The EA888 engine is also referred to by the Volkswagen Group's EA888 platform name, rather than a specific engine model. The third-generation EA888 engine has a service life of about 600,000 kilometers.
